H.E. Ambassador Aklilu Kebede
Ambassador Aklilu Kebede has a Master degree in Political Science from Indira Ghandi National
University, BA in Business
Administration from the Addis Ababa University, an Advanced Postgraduate
Diploma in Computer Science from HilCoE. He completed his High School education
in Bole Senior Secondary School, Addis Ababa.
Ambassador Aklilu Kebede has been appointed by the
President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, H.E Sahlework Zewde,
to serve the nation as an Ambassador in Januart 2022 and he is assigned as a
Consul general of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Dubai and
Northern Emirates Since April 2022.
On his earlier diplomatic carrier he has worked in various departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE). Some of these positions are:
Director General for Northern, Western, Central and Southern Africa, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from November 2019 - to March 2022. On this position he executed Ethiopia's foreign policy on Ethiopia's bilateral relations with African countries. He pursued the diplomatic relations of Ethiopia with counterparts, coordinates policy issues and guides and maintains the operations of Ethiopia's overseas diplomatic missions within its regional jurisdiction.
Director General for Human resource Management, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the FDRE, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from October 2018 - November 2019. His role as a Director General was leading and managing the Ministry’s Human Resource Management activities such as hiring, promotion, transfer, discipline, motivation retirements and others. He performed the implementation of HRM policies on all employees of the Ministry at the head quarter and diplomatic Missions.
Director General for Capacity Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the FDRE, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from June 2018 - October 2018 2. He as a Director General was responsible for coordinating and executing the Capacity development programs. In addition, he was also responsible for maintaining the Ministry’s organization and management and organizational reform activities.
Minister Counselor II, Embassy of the FDRE, New Delhi, India, from July 2013 - June 2018. He was primarily responsible for pursuing and doing all the political and public diplomacy activities in the Embassy. It basically engages to strengthen the bilateral relations and consolidate cooperation between the two countries and other countries accredited to the Embassy.
Desk Officer for the Chinese Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the FDRE, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from November 2010 - July 2013. He was responsible for all rounded issues of bilateral affairs with the People’s Republic of China.
Senior Inspector, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the FDRE, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, June 2007 - November 2010. He was responsible for Supervising the compliance management, performance management and inspects other managerial activities of the departments in the Ministry and the Diplomatic Missions abroad.
General Service Section Head, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the FDRE, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, May 2003 - Jun 2007. Responsible for the logistics issues (procurement, maintenance, and so on).
Senior Officer, Addis Ababa Finance Bureau, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Ambassador Aklilu had also some years of experiences in other organizations and companies before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2003.
Ambassador Aklilu Kebede has also number of other contributions in the Ministry. His long years of experience have enabled him to be chosen by the top officials to head some of serious organizational Reform Programs such as the Re-Structuring team of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2021 – 2022. He was also a coordinator of the Ministry’s Study Team that prepared the Transformational Agenda Diplomatic Road Map, 2021. He participated as a member of the Ministry’s Strategic Plan (2020 – 2030) preparation team, 2020. He served as a team member of the 2019 Organizational Re-Structuring Team. He was a Senior Coordinator of various teams that are assigned in the Job Evaluation and Grading Tasks, 2019. He served as a Team leader of the Job Description Preparation Team in the Ministry, 2018. He participated as a team member of the Employees Re-deployment Committee in the Ministry in 2017. He was also Team leader of the Organizational Business Process Re-Engineering Team, 2011.
He was actively involved in community development activities. He was a Principal Founder and Executive Secretary of the Employees’ Credit and Saving Association in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was elected as Chairman of Addis Ababa Finance Bureau Credit and Saving Association in 2001-02.
Ambassador Aklilu Kebede has written an Amharic book under the title: “YeEthiopia Yewuch Gingnunet Ketint Eske Zare”, 2021. It focused on the history of Ethiopian Foreign Relations since time immemorial to the time when transformational leadership comes to Ethiopia in 2018. In addition He has also contributed another Amharic book under the title: “Yihichin Hager Endayehuat”, 2016, which focused on his personal experience while working in India as a diplomat.
He is married and has two daughters and a son.
